Instructions for Assembling a Pre-Made Gingerbread House with Pre-Mixed Sweet Icing in Piping Bags and Candies

Materials Needed:

  • Pre-made gingerbread house kit (with walls, roof pieces)
  • Pre-mixed sweet icing in piping bags
  • Assorted candies (included in the kit or additional)
  • Scissors (to cut the piping bag tip)
  • Clip (to seal the icing bag when not in use)
  • Clean, flat workspace

Step-by-Step Instructions:

Step 1: Prepare Your Workspace

  1. Find a clean, flat surface to work on, and cover it with wax paper or a disposable tablecloth for easy cleanup.
  2. Unpack the gingerbread pieces and lay them out for easy access. Check for any broken pieces.

Step 2: Prepare the Icing Bag

  1. Take the piping bag with the pre-mixed sweet icing and cut the tip off at a slight angle using scissors. Start with a small cut; you can always make it bigger if needed.
  2. When not using the icing bag, use a clip to seal the tip to prevent the icing from drying out.

Step 3: Assemble the Walls

  1. Pipe a thick line of icing along the edges of the base or the tray that comes with the kit.
  2. Press one of the side walls into the icing on the base and hold it for a few seconds to secure it.
  3. Pipe icing along the edges of the front and back walls, pressing them against the side wall to form a corner.
  4. Repeat with the remaining side wall, using icing along the edges where each piece meets.
  5. Apply extra icing along the inner seams of the walls for additional stability. Allow it to set for about 10 minutes.

Step 4: Attach the Roof

  1. Pipe a line of icing along the top edges of the walls.
  2. Gently press one roof piece into the icing and hold it in place for a few seconds.
  3. Apply icing along the edges of the second roof piece and press it against the first, making sure they meet at the top.
  4. Add extra icing along the roof peak and edges for stability. Hold the roof pieces in place for a minute, then allow the house to set for 15-20 minutes before decorating.

Step 5: Decorate with Candies

  1. Apply a dot or line of icing where you want each candy to go, using the icing as glue.
  2. Press candies gently into the icing and hold for a moment to ensure they stick.
  3. To create icicles or snowy effects, pipe icing along the edges of the roof, letting it drip down slightly.

Step 6: Final Touches

  1. Use the remaining icing to add decorative details like windows, doors, or patterns.
  2. Allow the house to set for at least 1-2 hours before moving it to ensure everything is secure.

Tips:

  • If a piece breaks, use the icing as glue to repair it, and allow it to dry before continuing.
  • When not piping, clip the tip of the icing bag to keep it from drying out.
  • For a more stable structure, let the walls set completely before attaching the roof.
